Church Planting in Jacksonville: Iglesia Local

David Uribe (class of 2020) is pastor of Iglesia Local in Jacksonville, Florida.

David is originally from Mexico City and his wife, Estefania is from Puerto Rico.  He and his wife serve the Latino community in Jacksonville, FL.

David had recently emigrated from Mexico City when he enrolled in TBC’s Youth Ministry program. He succeeded as a student, even with the added challenge of learning English while in college. His determination paid off and he graduated in December of 2020.

Last year, God put it on David and Estefania’s hearts to plant a bi-lingual church in Jacksonville.

After prayer and through lots of faith, they took a step of faith. Partnering with Converge Mid-America, David and Estefania planted Iglesia Local in the Arlington area of Jacksonville.

Iglesia Local seeks to reach first and second generation Latinos with the gospel, while building bridges between cultures and generations. 

David and Estefania are making a lasting impact in the local Latino community. 

They are a remarkable display of God’s ability to use anyone who gives their life and talent to Him. Each week, David preaches in Spanish and his wife stands beside him, delivering a unrehearsed translation on the spot.  One of the things that makes their bilingual team so effective is the evident passion behind both deliveries. David’s words delivered in his heart-language are translated into English with equal fervor. 

Their ministry makes it possible for bilingual families to attend services together, strengthening the family unit while sharing the gospel to new generations!

Recently, David and Estefania were guests on our campus as part of a Converge conference.

Pastor David preached in Spanish during chapel that Friday, while his wife translated into English. Their topic emphasized the importance of introducing others to the Hope found in Jesus. The couple left an impression that will not be soon forgotten. Students were able experience first-hand how an alumnus is using his gifts and creative abilities to reach his bi-lingual and bi-cultural community.
