Introducing the ’23-’24 Academic Theme
We crave authenticity. We look for evidence of it in our peers, our mentors, and the leadership figures in our lives. We want to see real relationships, real leadership, and real Christianity fleshed out in the lives of fellow believers.
This reality inspired the theme for 2023-24: “Real. With God, ourselves, and others.”
Based upon the scripture text Romans 12:9-13, the theme emphasizes the need for each of us to be authentic in our walk with Christ, honest in our view of our own selves, and genuine in our relationships with others.
“Let love be genuine. Abhor what is evil; hold fast to what is good. Love one another with brotherly affection. Outdo one another in showing honor. Do not be slothful in zeal, be fervent in spirit, serve the Lord. Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer. Contribute to the needs of the saints and seek to show hospitality.”
Real with God: confessing our sin and turning to Him as the only answer
Real with ourselves: being honest about our brokenness and need for Christ while simultaneously being joyfully aware of the victory available to us through Him.
Real with others: developing genuine relationships that display grace and provide mutual accountability
Each student, professor, and staff member will experience highs and lows this year. May we all turn to God in both seasons! May we have an accurate perspective and be honest with ourselves about our circumstances. Through it all, may we experience encouragement and community through the genuine relationships that God places in our lives!
